2011 is looking good

Most notably, I travelled to New York for the NY7s tourney, which was one of the most positive rugby experiences I’ve had. A couple of weeks ago, I toured to Darwin with the ACT girls for the Darwin Hottest 7s, and I have a few more 7s tourneys coming up.

The burden of your dreams

This is not just for rugby players, but for everyone. I remind my husband of this when belief in his own dream falters. Perhaps this is simply “making sacrifices” – he knows we will need to move cities if he is to progress, but we love it here.

Thanks for 2010… and moving on

With the lull in proceedings before the various sevens tourneys, I thought now was a good time to look back at 2010 and take what I can into next year.
The video below is part of my 2010 review and the first step towards 2011. It’s also an opportunity to thank a bunch of people who made a difference to me, even in ways they probably think are insignificant (I didn’t think so!)

I played in the shadows et al team (The Wenches). The Wenches pack featured two tourists, five shadows (all former Wallaroos bar one) and me (#6). The backline borrowed two tourists, and had one shadow, two ACT players (fellow Viqueen, Nikki, and Owl Tegan) and one local player (congratulations to Narelle, my Vikings teammate – very young but very talented!) Royal Kasey Davis started from the bench for us.

Video and Match Report: Tuggeranong Vikings (The Viqueens) v Uni-Norths Owls, ACT Women's Grand Final, 2010

The video above shows the tries from our convincing grand final victory over Unis. It should be noted that the try at 1:10 (or thereabouts) was called back because of an infringement (umm, mine) about 60 seconds earlier. A late tackle I was committed to. Alas and alack.
Our manager asked me to write the match report for the Vikings website. It hasn’t been posted there yet, so I’ll stick it here for the time being.

Will post more tomorrow, am feeling quite unwell still and my nose hurts after copping a fairly decent whack in the first tackle (one I was proud of, nonetheless) of the match.

The following quote reminded me of my current largest shortcoming: I tend to go off my feet.
“David [Pocock] has always been technically very good I think – he works hard to stay on his feet and get low over the ball and get in a good position” — Jim Williams.
Will practice hard for the rest of the season

Video: Personal Highlights and Misadventures

Since it was a special year for me, I took the indulgence of making a personal highlights and misadventures video of my performances at Nationals.

Probably doesn’t need to be said, but I’m wearing #7 for the Brumbies.
I’m halfway through a team retrospective video – will post soon.

Player Stats: ACT v Sydney, 2010 Women's National Championships

I was the only openside flanker in the championship division at Nationals to miss out on the Wallaroo Training Squad. Ouch. Being a curious creature and wanting to understand where I need to improve, I decided to check out my match stats, starting with the ACT trial match against Sydney on 16 April.
If interested, you can check out the video highlights from the game.
I looked at myself (obviously), Alex Hargreaves – incumbent Wallaroo #7 but playing #8 for ACT – and Amy Robertson, the Sydney #7. Note that I’ve only counted material contributions, ie hanging onto a ruck is not counted as an involvement.
