2011 is looking good

ACT Women's 7s Team, 2011

ACT Sweet Chilli Fillies, Darwin, 2011. I have my head taped to cover 6 stitches over my eyebrow!!

Hey there! I’ve been a bit of a slacker as regards this blog, but in reality, there’s been plenty happening for me.

Most notably, I travelled to New York for the NY7s tourney, which was one of the most positive rugby experiences I’ve had. A couple of weeks ago, I toured to Darwin with the ACT girls for the Darwin Hottest 7s, and I have a few more 7s tourneys coming up.

I have some big news, too, but I’ll save that for another day!

Things are going well in training for me and I’m feeling confident! Touch footy in the offseason has helped me gain confidence running the ball, and I’m showing the agility and ball-playing ability of my younger days: only better! I have a few new tricks yet!

I’m so looking forward to the next couple of sevens tournaments. I can dominate physically, but will also show some flair tempered with composure. I learnt so much from Darwin and got so much out of my trip to New York.

One of the best things about New York was meeting CJ Hildreth, who is an amazing player and person. She’s in the USA 7s squad and is a biotech consultant. She travels the world playing rugby and touch football and has the most sophisticated grasp of the game. It’s a pleasure to talk to her! CJ came out to Darwin and played for the Samurai-sponsored Bush Turkeyz team, and I hope to catch up with her later in the year, possibly in New Zealand :)

NY7s Lineout

NYRC Lineout @NY7s. I'm jumping in black, Phaidra Knight - legendary US flanker - is in blue headgear

Up next for me is the Canberra 7s tournament on February 19, followed by Sevens by the Sea. Both of these are essentially club tournaments, although I’ll be playing for ACT in the later comp (not quite sure how we get away with that). I’m very much looking forward to my first hitout with the Vikings girls.
